SPEAKER 1
Who's the real phony here? As a relatively established indie writer who has never so much as posted my photo online I'm in a better position than most to understand J.D. Salinger of Catcher in the Rye fame. I don't even own a cell phone, and neither would have Salinger if such invasive, time-wasting contraptions had existed in his time.

What emerged from reports from inside the lines of Salinger's legendary reclusiveness was a snapshot of, frankly, just another eccentric artistic genius who probably felt similar to his iconic protagonist Holden Caulfield who said, I was surrounded by phonies. They were coming in the goddamn window.

Salinger was into certain controversial, alternative medicine practices, and that was back in the day. Preferred health menus to the terribly sad standard American diet. Loathed the media with every fiber of his being. He leaned toward the kinky with his love interests.

Discussion about this video

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Massively inspiring feedback on one of my recent (typically ignored) videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHwYPQMBD9c&ab_channel=SolLuckmanUncensored) by someone who actually knows what they’re talking about …

“I was George Lucas' assistant for 22 years and didn't know who he was when i met him or have any experience in Film We had a great 2 decade run seeing the fame game rise, while building an empire love this piece!!”

Quoting …

This is beautiful. Phone-eez... (Phone-eeeesh...)

I particularly enjoy the way you highlight the nutritive panoply of benefits of not exposing oneself to widespread narcissistic scrutiny — and this can apply in powerful ways for so many people who feel uncomfortable not visibly participating, not realizing that a lack of visibility, on its face, is not necessarily a disadvantage.

I have always wanted to go deeper into the thing about cultures that have avoided mirrors or photographs, avoided their image being replicated in such ways. I don't remember much about where I encountered this in the past but it feels really relevant here too.

"I'm up to my ears in unwritten words"

I feel that often enough to recognize what it is.

The more you write, the more your brain creates.

 -

For some of us, anyway.

It is as if writing something down

opens windows upon new vistas to describe.

Eventually it reaches a velocity that surpasses the velocity of physically writing.

It can crowd out critical parts of our lives such as play and engagement.

 -

Which is why I have avoiding writing most of my life.

 -

Writing and composition can destroy

careers built around actually performing physically IRL tasks.

(such as performing geophysical surveys across parts of the planet ,

or designing equipment and technologies to support such projects)

 -

Now that career life is over there is plenty of time to write as I wish.
