Just following up ... You should have received a notification that Substack refunded you $4 and changed your subscription to the 20% off special one. They also didn't find any problem with their interface and said that the issue appeared to be that your card was simply declined originally ...
I used the same card, but it was only accepted after I unchecked the discount box. But, if others' subscriptions are being processed without issue, it is obviously on my end.
Sol, Substack offers general help only (to readers); their suggestion is to check with my credit card company. They are smoothly processing my only other Substack sub, so I don't think my card is the issue.

Okay, the platform still said "card declined," but when I unchecked the 20% box, it seemed to go through. Hopefully only once. :)
