depends on who is using the term: self-described vs an accolade

Thought Leader sounds like it was cooked up by a marketing focus group. I’d give it a 12.

8 out of 10 for Influencer! The word is just annoying. As if no one can make up their own mind anymore without these human infomercial characters! 🤣

Tough poll. Expert is the intellectual who doesn't know what he doesn't know because they are often only tapped in to one side of themselves. Influencer is so focused on making money that they threw all integrity out the window and instead only focus on the scene, like the new old department store window display. Thought leader is ok if someone else refers to you that way but identifying too tightly with this label becomes more culty than leader oriented. Content Creator is the label for people that want to ensure they are not the other 3 labels because the cringe has been recognized yet unaware this label, too, will bring the cringe...because a content creator can be nothing but an influencer with a different label...unless they are striving to bring genuine value, to which there are many...but like anything, the bad eggs spoil it for the others.

I chose "influencer." I honestly forgot what odious means. Had to check it's meaning which is like repulsive? It's all semantics. Here is the why with my answer:

In this environment, people can sense someone selling to them a mile away. Even if we are just trying to talk to people they wonder if we are trying to sell something and I think they are tired of it. I'm tired of it.

This is connected with: I wondered why people aren't commenting on my posts even if I'm not selling something.

My coach had an interesting thought about why people are tired of being sold to and we think it's because it's everywhere. Some digital marketers do a, not so great job, (the kindest words I could muster) of using bots to talk to us and spam our inboxes and we are all tired of it.

And our subscribers and followers are tired of it.

I had a thought today that I need to stop using form letters and canned letters and I need to get to know my followers for them and shelve the things I learned about digital marketing.

Instead my writings need to be about the people I am helping and not about what I want to share.

This is something I'm "noodling" on. What do you think?

Feeling longwinded today. My apologies.

I love your thoughts. I'm trending in a similar direction. I've got a new book and self-bodywork technique coming out, both of which are designed to get people out of their heads and into greater levels of authenticity, and my goal is to present them in a very real and honest manner with the least friction possible. But even talking about these things here can be construed as "selling" (as opposed to sharing) in this jaded online environment. Not sure there's really a solution except to do what you love and love what you do and have the courage to be disliked for it, LOL ...

Helping people get into "greater levels of authenticity." I like that alot!

We just talked about your other statement in our "righteous hang" today about doing work we enjoy and the people who that resonates with, will connect with us. We gotta just keep going.

Right on. It's gratifying and super supportive to connect with kindred spirits like yourself. Onward, (inward) & upward!
